180 degree rule

The 180 degree rule is a camera rule where someone or something is facing another petrson or object. This shot should only be seen in one side. This can be done be putting a line between the two people and crossing this line

In this image I have placed a pencil as the line between these two toys. As you can see, they are both facing each other
This shot is an over the shoulder shot on the crocodile, this is not crossing the line that I have creating and because of this you can still tell where the lion is looking which is at the aligator.

Se7en

The opening starts off with an establishing shot of a book. There are non-diegetic sounds of a large thud like a thunder strike or a gunshot which really catches the viewer's attention. In the first part of this sequence, there is someone turning the pages of a book and him starting to write something. There are several cuts between the credits and the person turning the book. Editing is used with a short shot duration with parts of this sequence cutting to credits and back which each show something different creating some sort of story. Whenever it cuts to show opening credits there is a black background with these flashy white letters that are flickering which establishes some sort of creepy tone to the opening title sequence. The design of the area is quite dark and black which further emphasizes this frightening tone. There is non - diegetic music playing in the background which is very minimal. There are loud sound effects that are played. These sound effects are quite unsettling to hear. There is then finally a shot of this person writing something. All of these elements create a creepy atmosphere in the sequence. This establishes the genre showing it is going to be a dark violent film. The dark background suggests that it is some mysterious aspect to it.

The next moment is when this person in the opening title sequence cutting up pictures and highlighting passages from a book. There are many close-ups on his hand and the tasks he seems to be doing. There are several pictures that have close-ups on them, these pictures seem to have humans in them which illude to some sort of murder. There is a close-up of him highlighting a text, the camera is fixed throughout these tasks he is doing which shows the importance of these things such as the text that is being highlighted. There are elements such as his black pen and the black pictures he is cutting up create a serious tone to it. There are multiple crossfades into different moments of the sequence such as a crossfade from reading to highlighting which links these things together. All of these shots at this moment work together to make a montage sequence that tells a story of what this character is trying to do. He seems to be trying to solve something due to the cutting and highlighting. The pictures have dead bodies in this sequence which maybe illudes towards this character is some sort of detective work with the police to solve something. At the end of this moment, the non-diegetic music starts to change into something more intense however throughout this moment the music and the sound effects are the same. All of these elements show that this character might be trying to solve something maybe some sort of murder or a series of murders that he is trying to solve by investigating into all of these things. The camera clearly highlights the tasks that he is doing in order to solve something.

In the next moment, he is still doing the same things like turning pages of pictures and reading books. In this part, the non-diegetic slowly starts to get more intense. This music is both intense and creepy which helps establish the genre of the movie. There are several shots of this character turning pages of pictures. There are more close-ups of these things and crossfades into other tasks. For example, there is a moment where the camera is zoomed on a picture on a page of a book that shows someone with something in his head which creates quite a violent tone because of this. The non - diegetic music gets more intense with different instruments coming in to support what is happening in the sequence with synchronous sound with the sequence getting more intense as it goes on. The short shot duration and jump cuts are happening and a much faster pace which helps support the intensity of the music.  There isn't much lighting which helps create this dark tone. The design of all these pictures that are shown is quite frightening which helps do this. It does not focus on one thing for a long period of time and instead keeps on cutting to different things which help create this mystery. At the end of the sequence, there is a tracking shot of a lot of books which shows that there is some extensive research in this sequence. At the end of the sequence, there are also sounds of a police siren played which indicates that some sort of crime has occurred which further shows this murder mystery type of film. Overall this part does help show that this is some sort of crime movie with the ending having the police sirens. This alongside other parts helped create the genre of the film.

In conclusion, all of these elements and techniques from these different moments successfully establish the tone of the film and also help to create some sort of narrative early in the film. This shows the dark tone of this sequence and what the rest of the film will be like due to the credits and what is shown in the sequence. The flickering style of credits and the sequence create this creepy atmosphere. The dark scenery helps create some sort of mystery that indicates the genre of the film. The gradual increase of intensity of music also helps show what the film is like.

My sequence starts off with an opening establishing shot showing the house.

There is a tracking shot of a car driving.

It is dark.

It then cuts to the car arriving at the house.

When the car arrives 4 people get out, two parents and two children.

They get out and open the door to the house.

The house is empty as they have just bought it.

The dad slowly opens the door and he hears a scream.

It is all in his head, the family thinks.

The children run in as they are excited

The mum and dad walk in.

The mum goes off to go and see the rooms.

At the entrance, the camera pans to the right and reveals a piece of paper with blood on it.

There is writing on this letter that says something.

The dad then sees a young girl flash before his eyes.

There is creepy music playing in the background and then there is a build-up to the reveal.

One of the children goes into one of the rooms.

There is something there that makes her scream.

The sequence ends.

Group meeting

On Friday we met up as a group and presented Kais' idea to luke. The idea was able to be done but we still had more problems with the opening title sequence that we have to fix before we can go with it. We discussed after the meeting how we could fix some of these issues with the opening title sequence. Kis idea was a horror movie set in the peaslake house in the surrey hills.

Group discussion

On Wednesday we re-pitched our ideas to our group. We all pitched our ideas which were developed more at this point. We ended up choosing Kais' idea as we found the idea the most interesting out of the three. The teacher thought the idea was able to be done so we decided that Kais idea would be the idea that our opening title sequence would be on.

In media lesson we were taught about shot composition and the different techniques. The first technique we used was called the rule of thirds when the screen is chopped up into three sections horizontally and vertically. Where the lines cross in these shots are the points of interest and make the shot look more balanced and better.

Another part of shot composition is changing the camera height to match the subject.

The first photo of the shoes have the camera placed above them. In the second photo, I moved the phone camera down in order to match the height of the shoes making the photo more interesting.

We also looked at lighting which was done to make the shot more interesting. I used the tv screen as a side light in this photo.

In this one I am using my laptop screen as a light.

Resarch for sequence fake blood

I will be researching a tutorial on how to make fake blood for my opening title sequence. My opening title sequence includes to people getting stabbed and is action based so the fake blood for the stabs will be a good thing to research so I will be able to effectivley make fake blood to make it as realistic as possible. I found a youtube video online which highlited a tutorial on how to make fake blood. One of the recipies to make fake blood online. I researched different recipes on how to make fake blood.

The first recipe I looked at was a tutorial using honey. First you get the honey in one container. Then putting one drop of food blue coloring into a separate container, after doing that pour the blue food coloring into the honey to make it gooier. After that red food coloring should be added in order to turn the colour red.

Another recipe I looked at involved using soap. The soap recipe is a recipe that should not be in contact with skin eyes or mouth.

The fist step was to pour the 1/4 cup of  soap into a container and then using red food colouring to get the correct colour.

Full opening title sequence

My idea is about a man that kills corrupt people in the world and the police are trying to track him down and arrest him.

The opening title sequence will start off with an establishing shot showing a buidling.

The camera zooms into the building and reveals a man in the office.

The man is dressed in a suit and there are two bodyguards next to him. This shows that this man is in a high power position.

The camera pans to the room shows him talking. He was talking about all of the evil things he has done before such as organizing countless murders.

The man is laughing about it and joking about it on the phone.

The camera then zooms in on the man's chest.

His chest shows his name tag.

It then cuts to an establishing shot of a house. It zooms inside the house.

It then cuts to a bedroom.

In this bedroom, a man is sleeping.

He wakes up.

His bedroom is filled up with lots of gear and equipment.

His room is also filled with pictures of all these corrupt people in the world that he hates.

He wakes up and opens his drawer next to him.

In the drawer, there is a close up on a sheet of paper.

The sheet of paper is titled, evil people.

It is a long list of all the corrupt people in the world that he has put down on this list.

There are a lot of names crossed out which clearly shows that he has killed many of these people before.

He looks down on his list and there is a name that shares the same name as the nametag of the person in the office.

It then cuts to the man in the office again. He is just about to start another phone call.

It cuts back to the person in the bedroom. He is gearing up putting on his equipment and getting his weapons. This is where the opening credits start playing as he is gearing up.

It shows him leaving the house and getting into his car.

It cuts to the man in the office again greeting someone on the phone.

It then shows the person who has now arrived at the building, getting out of his car and going in.

The person enters the building and arrives at the office where he hears someone talking.

He is hiding right now and trying not to get caught.

The camera pans to the left showing the man in the office on the phone. He is on the phone and is organizing to have someone killed.

He specifically says to choke the victim to death.

The person that is hiding pulls off an angry facial expression as he is disgusted by the man's actions.

He accidentally makes a noise and one of the bodyguards goes to search the area.

The bodyguard walks closer to the man hiding and nearly sees him.

Then suddenly the bodyguard gets stabbed.

The second bodyguard runs after the man and attempts to kill him by shooting him.

However, the man is too fast and quickly stabs him as well, killing the second bodyguard.

The man in the office then tries to shoot but his gun gets hit out of the way.

He is then shown crawling away trying to escape. He eventually begs for mercy.

The killer smiles and puts his hand on the corrupt person's neck.

He says you didn't give those people mercy, why should I.

He slowly strangles the person to death.

He does this intentionally making sure to choke him to death, as the corrupt person had just planned for someone to be choked so he wanted to give him a taste of his own medicine.

He stares into his eyes as the life leaves his eyes.

The man then escapes from the building as the police have been alerted. Before he escapes it shows him crossing off one of the names in his list as he has just successfully killed this corrupt person.

All this is happening while intense music is being played in the background.

Idea feedback monday

Today in media we discussed the 3 ideas we chose to pitch. One of my ideas was pitched. The idea was about a murderer who killed corrupt people in the world. People in powerful positions that do evil things in the world. My idea of an opening title sequence was the murderer shooting one of these types of people in the head and escaping before the police arrived. The feedback i got was that the whole film idea was a good interesting idea. They liked the idea of the murderer having a reason to kill these people. However I was told that the opening title sequence of my film was quite quick and short. It needed more developing. I will develop the idea further to create the sequence that i beleive will show what i want to show. The group will then pitch the ideas again on wednesday hopefully have decided an opening title sequence that we will do. The other two ideas that Kai and Jana pitched were also interesting ideas and all we need to do is develop our ideas further so we get a clear idea of what our opening title sequence will be exactly. We need to also think about which idea will be the most enjoyable to film and what problems we might encounter when filming the sequence.

idea feedback

 My ideas feedback.

In Media we presented our ideas in the class. on the first day we ran out of time which meant that I was unable to present my idea to the class. Eventually I did get to present one of my ideas to the class. The idea I presented was my first idea. This idea was about a man who only kills corrupt people in the world and results in a whole detective case trying to track him down. The opening title sequence would be set in an office and show the murderer killing one of his victims and then it would show him escaping before the police would arrive. I was told that the idea was good. I was told that the idea would not be too difficult to do for an opening title apart from one part which is presenting the gunshot that the murderer shoots and showing it on the victims head. When we did the group meeting, I presented my ideas. My group said that he first idea was very interesting and would be one of the ideas that would be presented on monday. I showed another idea too them about a bus fire. The feedback from my group was that the second idea would be too hard to make because of a fire.

First group meeting

Today we had our first group meeting. We were placed into our groups a couple days prior and started to work on the idea today.  our meeting we discussed the ideas that we would present on Monday. We needed to present these ideas in order to figure out whether these ideas be able to be filmed and what problems might be encountered when filming the sequence. We ended up agreeing on the ideas that we would present on Monday. One of the ideas was Janals 4th idea about a society of rich people that live in old homes that have a robbery and the robbery ended up with the death of a man. The man's wife knows that the murderer and robbery were not random and believes it was a setup of an inside job. Another idea we are going to pitch is my first idea of a murderer who kills corrupt people in the world. Then the final idea we are going to pitch is Kai's first idea of a family the moves into the surrey hills. My first idea about the murderer killing corrupt people did get good feedback. They said that it was an interesting idea and that We should present it on Monday. I presented one other idea in the meeting which was about a bus fire that killed people. The fire was planned by someone. The fire would lead to a whole detective case. I was told that that Idea would be too difficult to make into an opening title sequence. That is what happened at the first group meeting.

Ideas class

Today we pitched our ideas one by one in the group.

However, we did not get to my idea as we had run out of time.

One of the ideas that a liked in the group was carl's idea about the football team that all grew up in the same town and how they develop. I believe that it was a very interesting idea to show the progression of these characters and the conflicts they have with each other. I liked his idea of the opening title sequence of the ball dropping revealing the credits of the film. I think that it is a good way in showing what the film is about and getting straight to the point of football.

I think Fred's idea was a good idea. I liked the type of murder mystery idea of the murderer using clues in the crime scene in order to lead the detectives into who committed the crime. I like the idea of the opening title sequence that would be able to portray this murderer and what type of character he is.

I also think kai's idea was a good idea. It was good cause it changed a classic murder mystery story into a unique type of storyline with the idea of the murderer forming his murders with art. It is interesting as it would get into the mind of the murder and creates a mysterious feeling about what the murderer's intentions were when forming his crime scenes into art pieces.

ideas

The first idea the zombie apocalypse idea. It is in the future and the world has suffered from a zombie apocalypse which resulted in the death of multiple people and is still going on. In this movie the last survivors are in a classroom trying to figure out how to escape. This turns out to be caused by an evil scientist plot from the scientits behind the covid vaccine

This movie opening title sequence will have news reports played in the background while showing the world and the streets are empty due to the amount of people that have died and then eventually end up zooming into the classroom where the movie takes place and introducing the characters.

Next idea. Romantic comedy

A very attractive and has gotten the attention of a group of girls. It ends up with them constantly stalking him to get a chance at a relationship with him. They eventually all become friends but then get into an argument because they are all attracted to the man.

The opening title sequence will involve the main character walking home from school and the group of girls following him. He is aware that this is happening.

Next idea. Drama. A whole detective case about a boat fire that killed multiple people. The boat fire was supposedly accidental, however some evidence appeared that this case could have been planned. This all ends up with a detective case trying to solve if the fire was intentional and why it happened. It turns out it was a passenger that was getting revenge on the captain having previously killed one of his friends.

The opening title sequence will play news reports in the background while introducing the main character of the film which is the detective.

The idea is a thriller.

There have been rumours throughout the years of a murderer that comes and kills people every year. This murderer has still yet to be found as the law are constantly unable to solve the cases every time. It turns out the murderer ends up only killing rich corrupt people in the world. They eventually arrest the man however after it appears on the news and people question whether his actions were justified.

The opening title sequence will start with the murderer killing someone and a scream played in the backround. that are played in the background, the camera then goes and reveals the dead bodies that have been killed. It then cuts to police officers at the scene trying to figure out what happened while intense music is played in the background while you see the main murderer fleeing away. Eventully it zooms in on a note in the crime scene and that reveals the next victim.
