There are loud sound effects that are played. These sound effects are quite unsettling to hear. There is then finally a shot of this person writing something. All of these elements create a creepy atmosphere in the sequence. This establishes the genre showing it is going to be a dark violent film. The dark background suggests that it is some mysterious aspect to it.
The next moment is when this person in the opening title sequence cutting up pictures and highlighting passages from a book. There are many close-ups on his hand and the tasks he seems to be doing. There are several pictures that have close-ups on them, these pictures seem to have humans in them which illude to some sort of murder. There is a close-up of him highlighting a text, the camera is fixed throughout these tasks he is doing which shows the importance of these things such as the text that is being highlighted. This music is both intense and creepy which helps establish the genre of the movie. There are several shots of this character turning pages of pictures. There are more close-ups of these things and crossfades into other tasks. For example, there is a moment where the camera is zoomed on a picture on a page of a book that shows someone with something in his head which creates quite a violent tone because of this. The non - diegetic music gets more intense with different instruments coming in to support what is happening in the sequence with synchronous sound with the sequence getting more intense as it goes on. The short shot duration and jump cuts are happening and a much faster pace which helps support the intensity of the music. There isn't much lighting which helps create this dark tone. The design of all these pictures that are shown is quite frightening which helps do this. It does not focus on one thing for a long period of time and instead keeps on cutting to different things which help create this mystery. At the end of the sequence, there is a tracking shot of a lot of books which shows that there is some extensive research in this sequence. At the end of the sequence, there are also sounds of a police siren played which indicates that some sort of crime has occurred which further shows this murder mystery type of film. Overall this part does help show that this is some sort of crime movie with the ending having the police sirens. This alongside other parts helped create the genre of the film.
