Saving private Ryan Omaha Beach landing scene

No sound

I expect to hear sounds of water. Rough waves at the beginning of the scene. I would expect to hear intense music. When it gets inside the boat, Sounds of water drinking. When the first dialogue starts. I expect to hear the sounds of shouting due to the character's facial expression. Sounds of more water hitting the boat. When they start to get shot, Sounds of bullets could be played. Sounds of men screaming as they get shot. When it cuts to the turrets that are being fired, there would be louder gunshot sounds. When it cuts back to the ship, I would hear urgent dialogue and screams. When they get to the beach, Footsteps sounds would be played.  Water splashing sounds. I would expect to hear gasps for air. When there are explosions. When they step on land mines, I would expect to hear explosion sounds being played. Sounds of fire playing. Heavy breathing sounds. More screaming.

With Sound

At the beginning of the scene, there are Synchronous sounds of water waves splashing the boats. This helps establish the location of the scene of warships sailing in a rough sea. There is no music at all, which portrays a mysterious atmosphere in the scene. The audience doesn't know what is going to happen to these people. There are sounds of the boat engine going. There are more synchronous sounds of people vomiting. This creates meaning by introducing the audience to the scene and gives off a weird atmosphere with the lack of music.

There are then sounds of explosions playing. Then suddenly there are sounds of gunshots playing. There are pleonastic sounds of the guns firing from all the way across the beach. The sounds of the guns are amplified in order to increase the intensity of the scene. There is no music in this scene so that it makes the audience focus on the other sounds. The lack of music in the scene also makes it seem more realistic. When they jump off the ship, there are sounds of splashing, then when underwater, it is quiet to show that they are underwater. There are sounds of bullets hitting metal, showing that these bullets are going everywhere, which shows that the soldiers are not in a good situation as they won't be able to avoid the shots. There are sounds of soldiers screaming. There are then sounds of explosions being played which add to the effect of violence. At the end of the moment, there is no sound. It focuses on one of the soldiers. Maybe supposed to show that he is deaf or shell shock.  This creates meaning by portraying the situation of these soldiers, it is supposed to represent the struggle they are going through in the scene. It shows how terrible their conditions are.

A lot of the sound in this scene is indicating to the terrible situation these people are in. There is no music in order to let the audience focus on the bullets and explosions of the scene which makes the viewers pay attention to all of these soldiers being killed, it shows the urgency of the scene. The lack of music also makes the scene seem a lot more realistic. The silene also builds up tension to what is about to happen, as it adds a mysterious tone to the scene. It then eventually gets to gunshots being shot suddenly then, progressing to explosions being played in the background, showing the struggle these men are going through.
